Note: In a career context, all numbers are restricted between 0 and 5. However, in a match context, the numbers are not restricted. For simplicity, we are changing the scale here in the report and expressing every Match Impact number as a percentage. The maximum percentage (100) is assigned to the highest impact player of the match. All other players in the match are scaled relative to him. Negative Match Impact indicates that not only did the player not contribute in the match, but he also had an adverse effect on his team’s chances.

Scorecard

New Zealand beat Australia in the third and final One Day International in Hamilton by 24 runs. Following the abandoned second ODI, Sunday’s (5 Feb) result meant the home team won the 2016/17 Chappell-Hadlee Trophy 2-0.

Trent Boult was the highest impact player and bowler of the match for a highly restrictive, pressure-building spell that saw him claim six wickets (6 for 33 in ten overs, including four top/middle-order victims).

Ross Taylor’s 101-ball 107 saw him finish as the highest impact batsman (and second-highest impact player), an innings highlighted by a 100-run partnership for the third wicket with Dean Brownlie.

For his effort with bat and ball – 38 not out and 2 for 50 – Mitchell Santner was the third-highest impact player of the decider.

Mitchell Starc, meanwhile, was Australia’s highest impact player (3 for 63 and 29 not out).

While only two Australians failed in the match, as opposed to five New Zealanders, the visiting team was undone by the high impact performances of Boult, Taylor and the ‘other’ Mitchell.
