Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten 145 off 65 balls against Sri Lanka in the first T20I was only the third-highest impact T20 innings of his career. Apart from Maxwell, the rest of the batsmen scored 268 runs off 175 balls at a strike rate of 153 in a high-scoring match.
Maxwell produced his highest impact T20 innings in IPL 2014 against Sunrisers Hyderabad where he scored 95 runs off 43 balls. The run-scoring norm was far lower in that match, where the rest of the batsmen scored 202 runs off 193 balls at a strike rate of only 104. Contextually, Maxwell’s innings stood out more in the IPL encounter.
Maxwell’s second-highest impact innings of his T20 career came in England’s Friends Life t20 tournament, back in 2012. Chasing a meagre 136 against Kent, Maxwell walked out to bat with his team at 59 for 4 after 11.1 overs. From there, Maxwell bludgeoned an unbeaten 66 runs off only 32 balls to seal the match. In this innings, Maxwell was under pressure from the point he came out to bat but still scored at a strike rate of 206 in a low-scoring match where the rest of the batsmen scored 192 runs off 198 balls at a strike rate of only 97. Earlier in the match, Maxwell also picked up 2 wickets for 10 runs in his two overs. As a player, his all-round efforts in the match made this the highest impact T20 performance of his career.
