Kusal Mendis’ combined match performance of 8 & 176 against Australia in the 1st Test in Pallekelle was the 13th-highest impact batting performance in the history of Test cricket and the third-highest by a Sri Lankan (after Dinesh Chandimal’s 59 & 162 against India in Galle, 2015 & Sanath Jayasuriya’s 38 & 253 against Pakistan in Faisalabad, 2004).

At 21 years of age, Mendis is also the youngest to produce such a high impact batting performance in Test history.
