Sabbir Rahman emerged as the highest impact player in the Asia Cup Twenty20 International (T20I) played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Mirpur on Sunday (28 February).

Sabbir came in to bat with Bangladesh under pressure at 0 for 1 which soon worsened to 2 for 2 after the dismissal of Soumya Sarkar (and then 26 for 3). Sabbir though counter-attacked his way through to score 80 runs off only 54 balls, thereby, having a high Strike Rate Impact in the match. His partnership of 82 runs with Shakib Al Hasan also meant that Sabbir had a high Partnership-Building Impact . Such was Sabbir’s domination that when he was dismissed for 80, Bangladesh only had 108 runs on the board and eventually scored almost 54% of Bangladesh’s total runs. This was also the highest impact performance of Sabbir’s T20 career.

Shakib Al Hasan, emerged as the second-highest impact player of the match for his all-round efforts. His 32 off 34 balls had a high Pressure Impact as he came in to bat with Bangladesh in trouble at 26 for 3. With the ball, Shakib conceded only 22 runs off his four overs but more importantly picked up two top-order wickets.

Dushmantha Chameera emerged as the highest impact bowler of the match by picking up three top/middle order wickets but conceded runs at a rate slightly above the match norm. Dinesh Chandimal overtook Chameera as a higher impact player for Sri Lanka on account of his wicket-keeping duties and the dismissals he effected, apart from being the second-highest run-scorer in the match.

Four Sri Lankan bowlers had a negative Economy Impact (conceded runs at a rate above the match norm). Bangladesh, in comparison, had only two such bowlers.

Interestingly, Angelo Mathews had the best Economy Impact but the worst Strike Rate Impact amongst all the players in the match.

Seven Sri Lankan players had a Match Impact of more than 1, in comparison to only six such Bangladeshi players but the home team had three stand-out players with a Match Impact of more than 4, whereas Sri Lanka only had one such player.
