R Ashwin emerged as the highest impact player in India’s third Twenty20 International against Sri Lanka in Visakhapatnam on Sunday (February 14). This was the third T20I in a row where Ashwin finished as the highest impact player of the match.

Opening the bowling, Ashwin scythed through the Sri Lankan top-order, picking up 4 for 8 off four overs. All his wickets were of top/middle-order batsmen as he finished as the highest Economy Impact bowler of the match as well. Ashwin also had a high Pressure-Building Impact as he picked up wickets in quick succession to put pressure on the Sri Lankan batting line-up.

Ashwin was well supported by Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina, both of whom managed to pick up wickets and register a high Economy Impact in the match.

For Sri Lanka, Dasun Shanaka was the only batsman to offer some semblance of a riposte after coming in to bat at 20 for 4, which soon worsened to 21 for 5. He and Seekkuge Prasanna produced a partnership for 27 for the sixth wicket — the highest in the Sri Lankan innings. In the end, Shanaka’s innings was not enough to challenge India in their run chase.

Shikhar Dhawan emerged as the highest impact batsman of the match for his unbeaten 46 off 46 balls in a relatively pressure-free scenario as the Indian bowlers had already offered the run-chase on a platter for the batsmen.

Eight Indian players had a Match Impact of more than 1. Sri Lanka, in comparison, had only four such players.
