Note: In a career context, all numbers are restricted between 0 and 5. However, in a match context, the numbers are not restricted.
For simplicity, we are changing the scale here in the report and expressing every Match Impact number as a percentage. The maximum percentage (100) is assigned to the highest impact player of the match. All other players in the match are scaled relative to him. Negative Match Impact indicates that not only did the player not contribute in the match, but he also had an adverse effect on his team’s chances.

Scorecard

Sunrisers Hyderabad survived tense moments to emerge victorious over Gujarat Lions by four wickets on Friday (27 May). They will now face Royal Challengers Bangalore in Sunday’s finale.

David Warner was the highest impact player, and batsman, of the second qualifier.

Warner’s unbeaten 58-ball-93 contributed to 57% of the target and was scored under trying circumstances. He was under pressure from the get-go as Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed with only six runs on the board. SRH continued to slip as they lost their fourth and fifth wickets in quick succession (61 for 3 soon became 84 for 5). Warner, however, held down the fort amidst all the chaos. That he stayed unbeaten to ensure victory gave him a very high impact.

It was Warner’s second-highest impact performance in a T20 knockout match, only behind his unbeaten century for New South Wales against Chennai Super Kings in the 2011/12 Champions League T20.

Bipul Sharma’s one top/middle-order wicket (1-21 off 3 overs) and an unbeaten 11-ball-27 saw him finish as the second-highest impact player of the match.

While both teams had five players apiece who failed in the match, based on the performances of each team, Sunrisers Hyderabad had a 9% higher impact than Gujarat Lions.
